Individual Project

The individual project of this course is a challenging task. Yet it gives me a rare experience on developing a guideline for sustainability practice in a context of my own choice. For this project, I selected shopping mall operation in Jakarta as the case study and developed a guideline for energy efficiency program application within this context.

 

Jakarta is a city full of shopping malls. There is not enough amount of good public space in Jakarta. The only place Jakartans can go to have a recreation and meet up are shopping malls. This leads to a massive development of shopping malls all around the city resulting in excessive energy consumption. This is the main driver why I chose this context as a case study for this exercise.

 

I am very enthusiastic knowing that my exercise for this assignment is something that can be used in the real world (and in fact, is needed). So far, there is no guideline available for shopping malls in Jakarta to conduct energy efficiency program. I believe there are still a lot of rooms for improvement in this guideline. The in-class presentation session was very useful to develop and fine tune my guideline. My purpose of doing this assignment is not only to complete the course requirement, I believe I can utilize this further in the real world once I finish my course and go back to Indonesia.
